The daily worship in which thousands of Episcopalians, Deputies, Bishops and visitors participate stuns me with its diversity of language, liturgy and music. Also as a professional singer myself, I love hearing the enthusiastic and expert singing by this huge gathering. It never fails to give me the energy to get through the long days which begin with committee meetings at 7am and often extend well into the evening. One falls exhausted on the bed, the head spinning with legislation, theology, music and preaching.
Debate is often heated, yet we strive to remain respectful in our differences. House rules forbid overt signs of approval or disapproval such as clapping or booing. This really profoundly changes the character of our debate. Still there are moments of great suspense and high drama as with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we struggle to see where God is leading us.
